Apartment in Dnepropetrovsk by SVOYA Studio:

“Ekaterynoslavsky house is located on the main avenue of Dnipropetrovsk in the park area and it is a valuable building of architectural interest. It was originally a two-room apartment with a typical redecoration, where such advantage like high ceilings (4200mm [13.78ft]) converted apartments with small area to “wells”. The project was realized for a successful family who raised children and created this apartment resembling small cozy and calm oasis in the city center.

Initially the main request was “the cozy modern classics”. Our task was to create a space for living and having a rest from hectic and relaxing atmosphere. The spatial planning solution has been determined based on the wishes of the customer. The two-room apartment was actually transformed into three-room: the living room combined with the kitchen, the bedroom combined with the study, the bathroom. The stylistic trend was given not only by the customer, but also by the cultural heritage of the historic building in which the apartment is located. In our case, the interior is interconnected with the exterior.

Colour spectrum plays both aesthetic and formative role. Disproportionately high ceilings for such small spaces have also played an important role in the design. Compound and solid color provides depth and limited space at the same time, which is compatible with a person’s size. Furniture, lighting and accessories were chosen to create space of the apartment and were completely implemented. Ceiling, walls and floor finish play the important role in the interior, particularly the wall panels such as mirror and white painted MDF panels, herringbone parquetry. Even the unfurnished apartment created a special atmosphere, which was subsequently filled with furniture and accessories. Lighting is the decoration of the apartment. We weren’t limited neither by diameter nor by height, thus we could fit in luxurious and at the same time austere lights “Zonca” and “De Majo”. Their reflection in mirror panels creates additional depth and specific effects of light. First and foremost all decorations in the apartment design have functional base. The mirror panel at the end of the living room increases compact space and adds a bit of reflected light in the kitchenette and the hallway. All mirrors have radial patterns or shape which contrasts with dominant rectangular shapes. The compact pseudo-fireplace is the important element for creating comfort. The designer wooden coffee table with fold leather arm-chairs, and a vintage bar counter look contrast and eclectic on the background of snow white furniture.

Perhaps, the special energy of the building which filled the apartment for more than a century plays the important role. And we only emphasized peaceful atmosphere in the apartment.”
